An article I found in HR Magazine makes an interesting point about what suppliers of coaching services think they offer and what buyers expect.‘…First there was executive training, then came mentoring, and hot on its heels has followed everything from life counselling to career consultancy. All profess to develop leaders but, according to the experts, none of these services describes something they are all commonly confused with, but which has been steadily growing in popularity - coaching.Coaches claim they are not mentors or consultants and, according to the CIPD’s Learning and Development Survey 2006, eight out of 10 organisations now report using them, with one in five saying they seek to develop a coaching culture…’As Nigel McEwen, director of coaching, Ridler & Co points out it is an ‘immature’ industry still in search of an identity.Author: Imran
